Hi, I'm planning guitar #2, for my girlfriend, and gave her some options for the wood. Although she hasn't seen (or knows about) the entire woodpile, she tells me she likes "the orange one". Here are a few of the options.... Padauk Oregon Myrtle Mayan Walnut Figured Koa Claro Walnut
Lucky for me - she picked the least expensive set! I hope I can do the set justice, it has a great sustain when tapped. Sounds like a friend's cocobolo set he has in the workshop. I'll post some pics along the way.... Laurie |

Thats great looking Zoot. I'll take the rejects, since you won't be needing them. |

Laurie, those are some might nice pickings you have there. What else do you have hidden in your wood pile? What shape are you planning on making? I have a set of EIR hidden away from and for Sweetie. I'm going to start with walnut and cedar for my first, I think. Its going to be an OM for me. Everything is always subject to change of course. |

Those are all some beautiful sets! The padauk is nice, but I like the claro just as much. Tough choice. |

You'll be happy with the Padauk Laurie. Very under-rated wood and makes a fantastic sounding guitar. Cheers |

But you'd better ask if she will still love it when it turns brown. |

[QUOTE=Aoibeann]Laurie, those are some might nice pickings you have there. What else do you have hidden in your wood pile? What shape are you planning on making? Hi Lillian, I like the look of non-dreads, so I chose to build another grand auditorium (based on a Fender that I have). I posted pics back in april if you want to see the scratch build #1. As for other wood, I have new guinea walnut, more claro walnut, another unfigured set of black walnut, a few narra sets, figured jarrah, sapele, more oregon myrtle, osage orange and curly anirge from BobC. Here are a couple more pics.... another myrtle set (the sides are around here somewhere) sapele back narra set jarrah set osage orange - thanks BobC curly anigre - again - from BobC Of course, I will leave the figured stuff for future builds and concentrate on the basics of building first.... Laurie

Wow, nice selection you have there. I can see you are another one that doesn't like to do things in half measures. I'm looking forward to seeing them all come to life. |

Oh, and as for your girlfriend not appreciating the zoot, you need to start educating her. Unless she is totally disinterested in what you are doing, talk to her about it. Who knows, she might surprise you with a package from one of our sponsors for your birthday. I've taken to leaving catalogs around with things circled, sending links to our sponsors sites. One of these days Sweetie will catch on. |
