Well, it's finally here. Tomorrow's the day I'll be filling. I've come to peace with my mistakes, I'm sanded, and ready. What do you guys actually mix Z-Poxy IN? It dries so fast, and mixing it in throw away plastic quart-sized containers makes it quite difficult to get that cancelled credit card in far enough to scoop some out. Are there less annoying solutions? |

Disposable cup like Hesh, I do about 2 grams of each component at a time, and I go right to a 50/50 mixture with alcohol - I had problems with the epoxy developing a slightly pebbly surface when I used it straight. I probably have to do more coats and touch up using thinned stuff right from the start, but it dries to a much smoother surface for me. |

I save that common plastic that everything seems to be packaged in from anything I buy just for mixing epoxy in. Any size works, really. |

Epoxy mixing cups 26 grams will do four guitars [IF] you work fast. |

I just squeeze out an equal amount on wax paper(about the size of a quarter) and mix with a toothpick. Then use the credit card to scoop it up and put on the guitar. I always put a little more hardener(an extra drop). You could mix in the cups that Tim mentioned, and then pour out on wax paper and scoop up with the CC. Good luck! Tracy |

A little tip when using epoxy: I learned this when wetting out glass on my boats. If you mix it in something deep, it will flash off very quickly. But if you mix it in something shallow it won't. So I usually mix my epoxy on a paper plate. |

Either on a piece of wax paper or directly on the guitar. |

Thanks guys. I don't know why I didn't think of this, but I just made small tray out of tin foil. Haha, Hesh, I know what you mean about mixing too much. I made that mistake when I did some testing back around the holidays. |

I mix mine in the same containers as Todd. I was at a local Mexican restaurant and noticed the little cups, Solo brand I think. I asked how much would they take for 25 or so of them and they said help yourself. Lasted me for a year or so. But I ran out last weekend. I'm feeling like having Mexican for lunch today. ![]() |

I actually thought about doing that, Dave ![]() Another quick question. I applied the second coat of Z today, thinned 50%. It feels smooth to the hand, but you can see my wiping strokes if you look at it from an angle. Are these OK to finish over? If I scuff sand, the Z will obviously go matte. Will the matte show through after rubbing the finish out (using Varnish btw), or will everything look crystal clear as it should? |

Sand it back with 600 or 800 until it all looks matte. You'll know then that it is indeed smooth. When you put the finish coat on it will pop again. Cheers |

I have been waiting for days to hear "In my overalls!" Seriously, Paul, your observation is an interesting one...I wonder if a shallow container permits the heat of catalysis to dissipate more than a deep container and thus, the polymerization goes slower? |
