I thought you might want to see the nice Camatillo B&S set I got from LMI in todays mail.  This should make a very interesting looking guitar!  Oh, these pictures are of dry wood.  It really pops when I wet it with some naphtha.

One of my students just finished a guitar of the same wood from Lmii !
He did a french polish and the wood became less Purple .
more nuetral !Rosewood looking !
The wood was just beautiful !!!!!!

Nise sound to his guitar (a Classical)
I think this wood is worth investing in !!!

My last steel string was with camatillo. It was really easy to work with
(except for the purple dust!) It's definitely not purple anymore though.
more "nuetral" like Mike Collins said.

I love it and plan to use it again. Have fun!

Hey Mike,

Since you have been around this wood before, how does it bend?  I have read it is very similar to EIR and that is one of the main reason I went with it.  Are their any precautions I need to take when bending it?

It bent really nicely. I did a venetian cutaway with no problems. I think it
bends even easier that EIR. The only trouble is that it's really oily, so
depending on what you use to bend, the oil can "cook" on the surface and
blacken it, but it scrapes off pretty easily. That just happened on my
cutaway side since I left it in the bending form longer to get it around the
tricky part.

that camatillo is magnificent!
whenever i get a chance to pick my own wood i just keep looking for the "open log" look - sap/qtr/flat/qtr/sap...i just love it!
actually i think ill go order myself another set and use your pic as a reference.

heres what my camatillo turned into:
camatillo flamenca negra

by the way, it is true that the finish darkens it BUT, ive had camatillo offcut lying on my car's dashbaord for over a year, constantly exposed to the sun and it hasnt changed its color...not even a little bit.

Of course, ordering from LMI is ordering blind, but I did specifically ask for some sap wood but not too much.   I like smallish sap lines in the center and edges but I don't care for the big wide sap wood look.   I think they got it just right!
