I do a lot of product photos, and I've never been satisfied with the results. So, I bought a macro lens and I have to say, I'm very pleased with it's abilities.
I call this piece...."capstan"

Cool cool, John. Shooting reflective materials like metal is extremely hard. I'm not a pro, but if you describe your setup, I might be able to offer some tips? |

Thanks, James, but I actually don't shoot much shiny stuff. This shot would have been a miracle with my normal lens. 
This would have been absolutely out of the question;

Thanks, Kim. It's a 35mm (70mm actual), 1:3.5 with a fixed aperture of 2.8 |

F2.8 macros are great. My Sigman 105mm/2.8 is - hands down - my favourite lens for sharpness |
