Hi guys and gals- Has anyone ever built a guitar with this stuff? I bought four sets from Allied Lutherie. It's really nice wood - lightweight, very stiff and pretty. When struck, it sustains forever and is very resonant. Here are 2 of the 4 sets below- Thanks- |

It is terrific wood. Sounds as good as any wood you will ever use. I have built several guitars with it and have two sets left of acoustic material I cut in the early nineties. For a finished instrument go to my web site and click the picture on the right side of the opening page for a photo history of one of those builds. Also look in the Gallery at Caribbean Quilted Mahogany 13, and the Quilted mahogany stratocaster. There are three examples of this extraordinary wood! |

We have a LOT of it here at McPherson. It's nice wood. Reminds me of Cuban More than Honduran. Not the best mahogany I've seen, but it's very nice. |

Thanks Hesh, I love buying wood. Sylvan- Those are some seriously beautiful guitars of yours. I'm glad this mahogany sounds as good as it looks, most quilted mahogany I've seen is about as stiff and toneful as cardboard. John- It must be incredible to work there at McPherson - all that pretty wood, nice tools, jigs, ect. They make great guitars and have an advanced design. Even still, they are lucky to have you. I have a few sets of Cuban and they are nice too. What is the best mahogany you have seen? Thanks for the responses guys- |

McPherson does have an incredible stash of wood. They have enough redwood to fill a floor 3000 sq feet and 20 foot tall. 6 CNC machines, and all the technology you'd ever need, and more. The best Mahogany I've ever worked with would be a toss up between some old figured Cuban I had (Built Matt Odmark of Jars of Clay's guitar from it) and some of the many sets of curly Mahogany I have in my shop right now. Stiffness, stability, weight, ect. is amazing. |
