Zakk, I can't confirm, but I like your guess of "Black Limba". Looks like it from here.
I really like that orange stripe in there. You've got some lovely stuff, whatever it is.

Yep...black limba it is. Occasionally a tree will produce those orange streaks as a reactive process against Ambrosia beetle attacks. You can see a single Ambrosia beetle hole in each streak in the photo. Same bug that causes the staining in maple and is marketed as Ambrosia maple.

Hey Larry (if you're still in the neighborhood), do you ever get any "Ambrosia Limba" in for back/sides???????

Hi Steve, the orange streaking is very rare, but nice wild black colors similar to Ambrosia maple is cool. I sold a set with orange color at ASIA, without the bug hole

I'm sure I have some at the shop in quartersawn grain, but am in Ohio this week, Atlanta next week then back to Ohio then back home to Oregon so it'll be a bit before I know for sure. Email me mid June and I can let you know.

Bug holes do not count as a lumber grading defect in limba (white or black) and the furniture makers love it

Larry,
Mid June works for me.
See if you've got some more with the orange, and set it aside.
By then my wallet might be recovering a bit.
Oh, and if I forget, drop me a PM or something?

SK

Larry,

I live about 60 miles NNW of Atlanta.

Are you coming here on business, or pleasure?
I would really like to see the wood you have.

In either case, perhaps we could get together.
However, if your visiting family, I wouldn’t want to intrude.

Robert

Hi Robert, Ohio is family, but Atlanta is all business. I'll be exhibiting at BLADE 2007 at the Cobb Galleria. It's the world's largest custom knife and factory knife trade event next weekend. I'll have burl slabs and acrylized wood blocks for this show.

I have 50-60 or so back and side sets (ziricote, claro walnut, myrtle, 2 pc QS North American (the real deal) Osage orange, black limba, etc, etc and some nice one piece mahogany neck blanks if this is of interest. While I had no plans to bring the guitar stuff to Atlanta I'd be happy to bring some down and meet up. I have a hotel near the Galleria Thursday and Friday nights, but will be arriving in Atlanta Wednesday evening. We can work it out via email.

Larry, where in Ohio? If your close to central Ohio, I'd be interested in the Osage Orange! Black Limba too. Clinton

Larry,

Looks like I'm not going to be able to make it to Atlanta this week.
But, thanks for trying to work it out for me.

Robert
