The Symposium was a real eye-opener for me. The amount of info gained and shared was vast and varied. From very practical things that I am doing right away (Like Dave Nichol's tip of using a small pneumatic die grinder with a shopmade base for cutting inlay pockets!) to things that will take years to adapt and develop, (Like Harry Fleishman's challenge to push the design envelope. I've never been to one of these, and had based my idea of what it would be like on photos I'd seen in Guitarmaker. One thing that surprised me was the area where the vendors were set up. This room had gone from a clean, sterile meeting room to "Guitar Wood Central". The smell was so cool! It smelled like a sawmill on Rosewood day! The best part for me was getting to meet everyone. There was plenty of opportunity to visit, play instruments, and share cold beverages with newly made friends. Meeting the OLF gang was great. Throughout the day we would all go to whatever presentation we wanted to see, but then at various times during the day, you could find Evan, Matt, Anthony, Dave, Paul, Ron, Nelson, etc. Debriefing each other about what they had missed. Lastly, I want to thank everyone for the nice comments about the guitar I brought with me. It was a HUGE rush to have everyone play it and give me such good feedback. I hope to see you all in 2009 Long |

Bob I'll have a chance to try out your guitar. I'm leaving for Anthony Z's place this afternoon. Looks like a beauty. |

Bob, that's a great perspective on the event. If asked what you learned things come to mind but so much learned has probably been internalized given that you get bombarded with info. Also great meeting you. I look forward to seeing you next time or sooner if you can manage to swing by Toronto in your travels. |

Thanks everybody, Matt... There are many words I could use to describe you, but "peon" ain't one of them! I do wish I could be in Toronto this weekend for the "Zlahtic International Guitar Summit". Hopefully there will be pics and reports. Long |
