Got my first repair job! Well, its not really a job, because I won’t be actually getting paid.
I figured I could use the experience, so, I told my friend, I would donate my time, if he would buy
all the parts. I did warn him of my very limited repair experience. Uhhh, actually, I have no experience.
Yet, to my amazement, he still wanted me to do the work. Go figure!
Anyway, I sure could use some help with this. It’s a Jackson performer PS-37. And, it needs a lot
of work. The pics below will give you an idea of what I need to do. First, I should say, that the
neck is totaled! It has an approximate 1/4" back bow in it, with a nasty twist that I’m sure would
be impossible get out, and the splice of the neck is starting to come apart. Second, I’m sure there
are at least 2 parts missing. 1. The nut. 2. Some kind of base plate that would be positioned under
the bridge. Have no idea what you would call this part.
A brand new neck has been purchased, and is in route. I have to tell you, it was not easy to find a
Jackson neck. The only one I could locate was on Ebay for $94.40 delivered from Online
instruments. It comes complete with polished frets, and, inlayed fretboard. No nut, and no tuners.
I still thought that was a very good price though.
After you view the pictures, you may find yourself thinking. Perhaps I should tell my friend that it
is not worth repairing. I did! And, he said, “this guitar means a lot to me” then I said, “OK, I ‘ll do it”
