I think you are right, we have to seed it a bit to get it going, so until people just "know" to look there I think that is a fine idea.

I've tried listing things a few times and got an error towards the very last
step each time that wouldn't let me proceed. I know I'd like to list there
because I can always use the extra cash. Has anyone else gotten the
same sort of error?

I think luthier acution is a very good idea - but like some good ideas... it can take a while to catch on sometimes...
There is a luthier auction at the other luthier forum although its a Live Auction, that takes place on Fri, Sat, (and Sun?) I believe.
Ppl are actively bidding against each other just like in a real auction setting which adds to the excitement, but also puts a touch of competetion in the mix.
I know some really good deal have been had there - but sadly not by me .

Anyway my point is,
Like at the "other" luthierforum,
I think not only should ppl be able to put a quick thread listing items they have on Luthauc, but also let ppl place threads bragging about the amazing deals they just scored on the luthauc's <- THAT will realy get ppl goingto luthauc and seeing whats on there!
Cheers

FWIW, I don't think looking at the Luthier's Auction will ever be part of my daily routine, the way looking at the OLF is part of my daily routine. That's not because of any problem with the Luthier's Auction --- I've used it and gotten great deals, and it's a great site. Rather, it's because "shopping" isn't on my list of things to do every day, even for something as cool as guitar stuff. Maybe it's because I don't have the money sometimes, or the need other times, or the inclination.

On the other hand, if you use this site (which I do look at every day anyway) to reference a deal over there, I'm far more likely to go check it out. I don't know why, but that's just how I am.

I hope we can make it more successful, because I've been very happy with the Luthier's Auction. The more this site is used to reference what's happening on that site, I think the more of us will go over there regularly.

I appreciate that there's some tension with keeping the sponsors happy, and I respect that we need to accommodate that.
