I am hoping to purchase some headplate sized wood for a new project; but I need something that has small pores, or preferably "poreless", but I would like it to be "rosewood" coloured, to match bindings.

Can anyone make any recommendations of what sort of wood to look at please? Thanks.

Get some acrylized wood. I'm not sure what it'll cost, but I know that one of the Larry's does it.

You might consider Pau Ferro. I understand that it can sometimes be found in a dark shade. It is virtually poreless.

Sam I was going to suggest Pau Ferro also, but that picture there is worth a 1000 words!

Granadillo would be my choice as it is a non porous wood. It may not be a very good match for Rosewood but for sure non porous. Pau Ferro, Morado or Bolivian Rosewood are also very "low pore" woods but also a bit to light in color and grain differences from Rosewood. Best bet would be to pore fill a Rosewood headplate with Rosewood dust from the same board and rub in with shellac to fill the pores, then smooth sand and proceed...
Good luck!
