I am hoping to purchase some headplate sized wood for a new project; but I need something that has small pores, or preferably "poreless", but I would like it to be "rosewood" coloured, to match bindings. Can anyone make any recommendations of what sort of wood to look at please? Thanks. ![]() |

Get some acrylized wood. I'm not sure what it'll cost, but I know that one of the Larry's does it. |

You might consider Pau Ferro. I understand that it can sometimes be found in a dark shade. It is virtually poreless. Ray ![]() |

Granadillo would be my choice as it is a non porous wood. It may not be a very good match for Rosewood but for sure non porous. Pau Ferro, Morado or Bolivian Rosewood are also very "low pore" woods but also a bit to light in color and grain differences from Rosewood. Best bet would be to pore fill a Rosewood headplate with Rosewood dust from the same board and rub in with shellac to fill the pores, then smooth sand and proceed... Good luck! |
