I'm repairing an Ayers Guitar made in Australia about 2004. The owner tried to install a Fishman pickup and preamp, and in the process put 3 cracks in the side each about 4" long.
Well the cracks are repaired, but I will have to refinish the dark stained mahogany side.
I was wondering if any of my Aussie friends are familiar with Ayers guitars, and if anyone knows what kind of finish that they use. I would guess that it's matte nitro, but I don't know for sure.
By the way Ayers makes a fine guitar.

You can contact them on 61 (0)7 4630 3800 by phone or on the web at http://www.ayersguitars.com.au

They are actually made in Vietnam under the guidance of an Aussie luthier.

Gerard Gilet of Gilet Guitars had something to do with helping them and setting up their process I believe....
I don't know if he has anything to do with Ayers guitars now, as such....
But he may be worth contacting about the finish if Ayers don't respond.

if it's nitro a drop of lacquer thinner in an inconspicuous place, like in a tuner footprint, will soften the lacquer.

if it turns out not to be lacquer then good luck. getting good finish repair touch-up on non-lacquer/shellac finishes is a bugbear.
