The guitar looks spectacular. Congrats! i am wondering why you made the sound holes so large...was it from a plan...did you tune it? Just wondering. ![]() |

Thanks again guys. The controls are standard Gibson style, 2 volume and 2 tone, rearranged to put the neck pickup volume in pinky range from the bridge. The owner picked the arrangement of the knobs and decided the three-way switch could go way in the back, as he almost always sticks with the neck pickup. This is an evolution of a design that goes back a few years. The top and back plates are carved and graduated and the top is parallel braced like an acoustic arch top but the top plate was left a little thicker down the middle. The sides are bent like an acoustic but the inside of the cutaways are part of the neck block, kind of like a mandolin. The sides end and are inlayed into the neck block at the point of the cutaways. (I may have construction pics somewhere) I didn't necessarily tune the sound holes, I worked out the size and placement purely on aesthetics. The binding went on after the box was closed (never again) so they are a bindings width smaller than they were originally conceived. Jim, I didn't take any pics of the finished insides but I'll look back over my construction pics and see what I've got. Cheers, Louis |
