Does lacquer retarder go out of date? I have some Mcfaddens retarder that I've had for a few years. It had been stored in it's original container. When I opened it the other day and poured some in a jar I noticed it has a dark golden color. It used to be clear as water. Can it be used?

Sounds like flirting with disaster. My guess is it has dissolved the lining in the can or the solder. You would be running a big risk that you'd have to strip the guitar and start over. In my opinion, you could buy fresh retarder of any brand and use it with McFadden's.
