I thought I would see if anyone could name this wood. It would have stumped me(at least I have never seen this figure inthis wood). Wood #1 with bearclaw figure(not sure if that would be the correct name for the figure, but that is what it looks like to me). ![]() Now here is a second one that should be more familiar. ![]() I do know the species. I am curious what you guys figure these two pieces are. I will confirm when someone guesses correctly. Peace,Rich |

Looks like Goncalo alve also known as Tigerwood in the USA. Doesn't come in a true bear claw figure, but I've seen that one fairly common. I have (or have had) Tigerwood on fiddleback, quilt, flame, pommele and a few other figures. Nice bass fingerboard material. |

first picture is a quilt pattern the second is curl pattern. The second looks like Koa to me but not sure about first color looks like Sapele |

Well there is no fooling Larry ![]() I think I will make some back and side sets,fingerboards, and maybe even some binding with these. The colors are really rich(both pics above are bone dry). Very dense and hard wood. Peace,Rich |
