I am planning to use wood bindings .250" tall by .080" to .082" wide, and BWB purflings .093" tall by .058" to .060" wide. I will use the purflings on the top, back and sides. I have the LMI set of router bearings, but don't know which to use with my router/binding jig. Any suggestions?
Also, should the purflings on the top and back be glued in separately, or all at once with the bindings?

Thanks,
Ray

Ray, some people glue them in all at once, but that's too much for me. I
like gluing the purflings in first with CA glue. Just be sure to seal the
edge of the top with shellac so the CA doesn't wick into your top.

By the way, stewmac makes a nice li'l bottle of medium CA with a brush
attached to the top, like nail polish. It has worked great for me.

Michael,

Doesen't the Titebond stick to the PVC?

Thanks, Ray

So, my question boils down to this:
Since the LMI bearings provide purfling ledges in increments of .010", and my purfling widths are between increments - shall I choose the bearing set that "forces" the purfling, or the set that allows for a gap? Can I expect that the purflings will swell to fit the overly wide ledge?

Thanks,
Ray

You should be able to get the depth of the ledge closer to the width of the purfling by wrapping a layer of tape around the bearing. You want purfling to fit tight between the top and the binding. The purfling might swell a little from the moisture in the glue, but you don't want to depend on that to fill a gap.

In that situation I sand my bindings to match the rabbet. If you use one that is slightly too small and sand your bindings a little more you should get a perfect fit.

Ray, I add about .010 to conpensate for swelling of the bindings and purflings... if using wood glue.
