Sorry L&B!

Even if a disgruntled likes to remove a few things from the DB, I still think we should have a button!

Says Aye! ARRGGG!!

I'm sure it will be unanimous!!

Billy,

If it's for pirates then shouldn't it be a "Parlez" button?

I consider the fact that when I post something here it becomes permanent record and may have some bearing on someone's decision to purchase a guitar from me. So I prefer to at least be able to correct my spelling errors after I've re-read what I've written.

i'm for reinstating the edit button and have been ever since its removal. i have been and still am puzzled by the stated reasons for removing the button in the first place, i.e, that a member(s) went into the archives and removed or edited their posts.

s it seems to me in my technodope ignorance that the only folks who would have the capability to do that were the administrators, as the archives clearly state that mere mortals are not authorized to post in or edit the archives. or mayhap were the archives hacked? if so this has never been said, and also seems highly unlikely that someone with those arcane skills would be deterred by the removal of the edit button anyway.

i have also looked at the two threads which were recently locked and transferred to the archives. the tony karol thread was no different than any of hundreds if not thousands of others i have seen here extolling the qualities and value of the goods and services delivered by our sponsors.

i think tony, and the rest of the forum, deserves some an explanation of just what caused that post to be pulled.

as far as the french polish thread from the sound salon goes, it seems that brock erred in assuming that greg's first had been edited. it clearly had not as there was no edit tag on it as the system applies to edited posts, or at least did when we had an edit button. someone even pointed this out to brock in the thread, but it was pulled anyway.

there was nothing that i have been able to discern in either that was in any way contrary to our forum guidelines, rules, or whatever one wishes to call them.

so i guess i fall into the mildly disgruntled column with a few, or not so few others.

I believe it is simply my right to be able to edit my own intellectual property. The loss of the edit button is the reason I didn't post for a month or so and the reason that I only post rarely now.

I know this is supposed to be Lance and Brock's sandpit, but as soon as you start taking money from sponsors and subscribers, then it can no longer be run as a dictatorship.

Colin

I double Colin?s opinion and would like to add that this edit-button is helpful esp. for foreigners like me who learned English at school and still suffer from some missed spelling lessons.

on a more serious note, it is well to remember why both martin and gibson dropped small footprint rectangular bridges several decades ago, i.e., less gluing surface=lower total adhesion strength.

i would hate to try to recall all the ones i've reglued, not to mention the split ones, but it is a very significant number.

just recognize the risks and charge the cliet accordingly.

I recommend that every post must pass through preview before posting, thereby creating an edit potential if one sees something they don't like.  Sort of like standing on the deck looking at, and contemplating the plank before you climb on.  Once comfortable with what is ahead, hop on and hold your nose.

Ah, Colin, you've hit the nail on the head there.
The underlying premise of most of these forums (not only OLF- some others are quite explicit about it) is that you are giving away your content when you post it. That's why the administrators feel that it is 'theirs' and you shouldn't be allowed to delete it (or edit it), even if you wrote it, took the pictures, etc.

Cheers
John

I guess you guys just cant wait until a software upgrade.
Good grief!

Something that NOBODY knows in public here at the OLF is that I was personally threatened by two different OLF members over the last 18 months or so.
One from Alaska and the other from South America. I shared this ONLY with Hesh so he could verify the fear I was in at the time for my self and my family.
I came closer than I ever have in shutting the OLF down for good. I was that scared.
Hesh provided me with some steady advice that I took, and I am very grateful for his council at that time.
Never in my LIFE had my life been threatened, it was a new experience for me

One thing that came from that experience was that, If I cannot preserve what is written or said at the OLF, I have no grounds to stand on should I be
threatened again.
Right now we are sorta limping along with the current software, it was modified (per my request) to maintain the look and feel of the old OLF, but in doing so, we lost
the ability to update. SO we are looking in to a completely new software package, the big deal is to try to integrate the current DB in to the new software.
When the new system is in place, there will be a window for editing.

Until then, I just asked for your understanding.
If you cannot provide me with that, I am sorry. That is the best I can offer at this time.

With reguards to Michaels comments, it wasnt "in the archives" that someone or ones changed there post, it was before it was archived. Once a post is archived it is automaticly locked.

Hang in there Colin, I'll get your edit button back just as soon I we can

I would like to add one small cavaet. At one time you could edit your own posts, even in the archive, even in closed posts. We ultimately caught and corrected that, but not until damage had been done.

Trust us, we get it... you want an edit button. That is on the "must haves" of any new software product.

I'm with Colin all the way here, it's actually why I haven't renewed my subscription - ok so I'm the one who's losing out. I want that bloody mug, and I need a new T-shirt.

As to why anyone would threaten Lance or his family for something someone else posted on Lance's forum. Well that's just wacko. Was it a threat of legal action or physical violence? Maybe a legal disclaimer and/or a new firearm are in order?

Lance, hang in there man. I remember both incidents in which threatening and excessively vulgar posts (by any standards) were edited and or completely removed so as to cover their tracks. If I were in the position of Lance and Brock, I would do the exact same thing. As Peter said, lets all show a little patience and put up with a minor inconvenience while the software update is arranged. Thats not asking too much under the circumstances.
