I want to build a Grimes-like two soundhole guitar that he built for Keola Beamer.  What guitar plan would make the most sense to use as a foundation for customizing?  The Grimes has a Body width of 15 1/8", body depth 4 1/8", body length of 19 3/4", overall length 40 1/2", scale length of 25" although I may go with 24.9"  Seems to me that a Martin OM plan would be the closest?

the om is traditionally a 25.4 scale, whilst the 000 has basically the same size body but is traditionally a 24.9 scale. the once clear structural differences between the two models have been blurred by the plethora of different martin offerings in recent years which used varying scale lengths on models designated 000.

will it be a 12 or 14 fret design?

I'd like it to be a 14 fret design.  So I can use the 000 as the basis for what I want to do?  Who has a good plan for that?

i've not used one, but lmi's pl31 is a 000, 24.9", but i don't know whether it is a 12 or 14 fret design. lmi should be able to tell you. also, from the feedback i've heard, these plans tend to be a bit over braced and it is best to lighten the bracing when building from them.

s-m's 000 is definitely a 12 fret design.

the problem with relying strictly on plans is that they tend to reflect the historical instruments typical of the model designation, rather than the sorts of instrument being currently built which carry the designation. if you have some experience it is a relatively simple thing to adapt the plan to your needs, but some experience goes a long way in such endeavours.

000 and OM are the same body same body. Typically a 14 fret 25.4 scale is an OM. Do you want 14 fret 24.9 scale? hence the OOO designation or a 14 fret 25.4 scale which would be an OM

Either can be built off of my plans but on the OOO 14 fret 24.9 scale you would have to appropriately shift forward the top bracing to accommodate the short scale
