This is my third attempt at this stuff. 1st ok second a disaster. Any suggestions for the finish? Color? There have been so many of you who have helped with your posts and pics, so thanks for being there.

Robert Dobbs (Robertandsons) used True Oil for the total finish on his and it looked great. He was really pleased with the results and the ease of application. Check with him, or wait, and he'll probably chime in since I have invoked his name. |

Great looking axe, Max! Sorry to hear about your second turning into a nightmare... The dreaded sophomore curse is alive and well, I see... As for finishing, as Hesh stated, if you don't have spray equipment or a safe place to do so, French Polishing is a superb alternative. I've also seen a few gorgeous guitars finished with KTM9 and they looked fantastic, to say the least.... I think the quality of your finish has everything to do with surface preperation and rigorous pore filling. If you substrate is free of imperfection, you'll be way ahead of the game. Good luck! |

Hey Max! Lookin' good! I'm just finishing up my #3 and went with mahogany also, albeit an all- mahogany. I had a local finisher spray mine. It was my first time having him spray and his first time doing a guitar. Although he is a highly respected furniture restorer, our inexperience with each other and what I was expecting led to me being a little disappointed. Not with his work, but with me being a little uneducated. He stated that he uses a vinyl sealer which I mistook as a replacement for pore filling....bad oversight on my part. Many folks have told me it looks fantastic and like the fact that it looks like wood rather than plastic but given the chance again I will definitely pore fill before sending off for spray work. |
