I really like the recycling concept, and have admired Fylde guitars and their growth in popularity.

I have played a couple of Fylde guitars/mandos, and somehow they don't have the "freer" tone of a Lowden, in my opinion. Mighty fine guitars to look at though.

I think there gorgeous--I only wish I could get my hands on some of that wood. Anyone know where or how?

The back and sides was from the oak barrels of a Scottish Malt Whisky distillery on the isle of Skye.....

The top I think is reclaimed washback Oregon pine, again used in the Whisky industry.

Pretty pickled woods, I say.....

DANG, there I go again, pressing the reply button faster than lightning..

Why not Email Fylde and ask them about where to find this type of wood?

never found any BRW in a skip, but all my back sides & neck wood comes from off cuts at a shop fitters near me.

If I didn't take it, they chip it and put it in the boiler.......

as to the whiskey barrels I heard somewhere that oak isn't great as a tonewood as it's not very humidity stable. If you want the barrels contact your nearest distillery. I got 4 barrels for free from Bushmills about 15 years ago. Chopped them up as plant pots.

Its REALLY old by the time a distillery lets them go.

Bushmills use second hand sherry casks so think 50 years with sherry in them and then another 50 with whiskey.....

dunno where you are af_one, but wine makers use oak casks too.......
