As some of you may remember, I posted a short time ago about #3's
nitro finish and the lack of using a pore filler.
I thought I'd post the results for y'all to see.
I think it looks ok, but this is something that I will not make the mistake
of again.
As a refresher for those who missed it the first time around:
What happened is I used the services of an excellent finish restorer on
antique furniture who is very adept at spraying nitro but who had never
finished a guitar before. He informed me he used a vinyl sealer. In my
ignorance, I thought it would double as a pore filler. This is NOT the case!
I started a thread asking for advice here on the forum and my choices
were to
1. strip, pore fill, refinish
2. sand finish and fill with nitro
3. let it be since it was not a commission, string it up and enjoy.
I chose option 3
I know of some others who prefer to finish their guitars this way, and
many folks who have seen this one say they absolutely love the look of
seeing the pores. For my personal preference, however, this would not be
my choice of appearance. Oh well, live and learn and move on to #4!
