I know you all guard your sources of primo woods, including for re-sawing tighter than your 14 year old daughters but if any willing to part with any info., I will be happy to receive. I know of Glimmer but I think you all know witch-doctors deep in the various jungles. If you will have to kill me if you divulge the info to me--pass.

Yeah, Bob C here on the forum is great, Steve @ Colonial is great, Larry @ Gallery Hardwoods has been great.. and I have done ok with LMI and Allied... (although their prices are much higher).

and I have a couple of ebay contacts for some specific kinds of wood... I know a guy with some excellent (but limited supplies) of pau ferro, and a guy who occassonally has very good walnut.

I am farmiliar with the Zoot Man. Incredible woods and reasonable prices. He is one of those I was referring to as knowing witchdoctors in the deep jungles. I checked Colonial for Adiorondack and expensive-but I am new and perhaps this is going rate for primo 2 piece top.

I know that I don't just speak for myself when I say this....Steves (Colonial) red spruce is consistantly the absolute best you will find. If sound is what you are after then you will be hard pressed to find tops that will come anywhere close to what he has. I have checked the tap, and flexed many of 100's of sets of tops and even though I have access to more wood than most do, I can tell you that every top that I build with or plan to build with came from him. If you think the top is important, and you want the best then you gotta be willing to cough up the bucks (please don't take that the wrong way). Guys who sell top wood to those of us who deal in wood know full well when they have a good batch, and you can bet that they will charge us accordingly and thus the end buyer gets charged accordingly. Steve @ Colonial is one of a very very few who has the experience and his standards are so high (especially on tops) that you could pull any top off of his shelf and before you even begin to tap on it you will know that you are holding something special. The topwood vendors who sell to him sell their very best wood to him (or he won't buy it) and I can attest to that first hand.......his wood is worth every penny. My 2 cents

Another voucher for Bob C and Steve R [Colonial} I will also add Bruce Dickey and Ed Dicks [AC Woods] to the mix. I have never been dissappointed with any of these sources. Are you looking for tops or backs/sides? Domestic or Exotic?

My 4 favorite so far (and I am a newbie) are BobC, Steve at Colonial, Ed at Acoustic Woods and Kevin Murray at Blue Mountain Acoustics.
