I want to build a two hole (Grimes) type guitar, but don't know how the neck is attached since you can't get access through the sound hole for a bold-on. I also assume that some type of vacuum clamp is used to attach the bridge. Anybody got experience with this? Thanks |

Some people use a long rod with the hex tool welded on one end, that they run through a hole in the tail block. I know I have seen a picture or two of this, but can't remember where... |

I guess that would mean if you had electronics you would have to be able to remove the jack from the outside? |
a dovetail joint solves your problems!
I was afraid of that. Guess that will bump up my level of competence (if done right). Thanks all! |

perhaps it's because i've worked on a fair few dovetails with all the resets i've done over the years, but looking back to when i first started i really don't recall having all that much trouble with dovetails. the process of cutting the mortice and the tenon are so simple with the templates and jigs available today that most of the angst is unnecessary. alignment is also relatively simple as well. sure, a bolted butt or straight mortice and tenon are easier, but if guitar building and repair were guaranteed to be easy everyone would be building their own, wouldn't they. |
