I'm spending the fourth in the shop. My wife is immobilized with back pain -- getting better though -- and the kids are with friends last night and all day today. SHOP TIME!!!

I just strung up a koa 000 in the white. Thought I might want to thin the top if needed, so binding is not on, but it sounds just fine, don't want to push my luck. Today, tweaking the action and neck profile a bit before binding and finish.

The build so far is here. Some of it I've posted before.

How 'boutchoo?

I'm waiting on some parts to arrive, so I thought I would work on the cracked guitar.....

remember this one?

well, I tried to get clamps on everything and glue it back together but it sticks out like a bad toupe with a chin strap.

I did string it up and give it a whirl though... it sounds really good except for a buzz on the G string. I cant find any frets that it is touching, so I am assuming that it is a resonance point for the crack.

It is going to get a new top anyway, but I just wanted to hear it... Now for some fireworks for tonight

Open G sting ??? if so the nut slot is flared at the FB end, and thats where the buzz is.

I closed the box on my cocobolo SJ today. Yay! Now it's starting to look like a real guitar! Now, I just have to build my binding routing fixture once the aluminum plate arrives, but that'll be this weekend. I'm getting excited now about finishing it. Let's hope for a break in the summer humidity in about three weeks or so...

Starting yesterday evening I braced and voiced the top to this box and today I closed it up,

Blocked and added the top linings to this set of rims,

Slotted, bound and radiused this fretboard,

Played catch with Theresa, and watered her flowers

While I was out there I snaped a few shots of a coco box before and after closeing it up.

I am trying to have this one ready for Tony a week from this Saturday when I go to pick up the little 0-12.

It was only about 85 in my shop today.  I considered it a good day.  Humidity is controlled.  So I worked on my Headstock.  I had a glue failure on the backplate of the headstock, and had to remove and replace the wood.  I did that and shaped the rough outline last weekend, so I started today from this.

I drilled the tuning key holes using a guide block from Specialty Tuners.  Then I used carpet tape and taped a piece of wood to the face of the headstock to control blowout, and used a forstner bit to rough out the slots.  Ended up with this:

Sanded out the inside with a 1/2" drum sander to this. (Not a good picture.

Then I used a template I made, and routed with a llittle v grove bit to get this.  It is not completely right yet, but this is as far as I got.

Waddy, what you have done so far looks cool. I've been setting around thinking about the get together at Bob's on the 14'th, can't wait, it'll be a lot of fun.

Lance

How does that fret board radius jig setup work??? Trying to understand the logic.

I use a similar radius block but just double stick tape the fretboard to the bench and then have at it with the block. Am I missing something?

I would love to see a video tutorial on how you prepare fretboards.... from start to finish.

I just pruchased enough fret board blanks to keep me going for about 2 years.... I'm going to need to know how to prep them soon...
