I`ve put 3 coats of z-poxy on ,and I swear I can still see little grain lines when I rub naptha on the guitar. I did a full strength coat and 2 wash coats, and sanded back just to the wood each time.So the question is , will french polish help to fill the very slight grain lines that are showing or should I give it another wash coat. & nbsp; Hatin` The Stuff James W B

Sorry James but it wont. You need to apply the epoxie and let it dry, then sand back with 400 and 600 grit to remove the marks. Then to make sure you cover every inch of the surface, dilute some epoxie with denatured alcohol (50/50) and apply with a rag or paper towel just enough to leave a film on the guitar to smooth and cover some bare surfaces. I never use full strength epoxy, just seems easier for me to use the diluted version applied with a ball of cheescloth, even it it means a couple extra coats(usually 4-5 coats for me)it goes on silky smooth which means less sanding...Yahooo! Cheers, Greg |

Cheers, Greg[/QUOTE] diluted epoxy will shrink as the solvent gasses off. But if you don't mind the extra coats this is not a bad sound process. As far as how many coats????..."What ever it takes" is the only answer. Most medium porous wood takes 2 sessions. I don't think of them as coats as I don't smear it all over and then work in, but rather work small areas at a time. This takes less epoxy and therefore waist less. But does mean I make up many small batches as I work along. After I am happy with the fill and the last session is cured for 20 hours. I sand back to bare wood everywhere. Leaving the epoxy only in the pores. Then I too use a 60% epoxy/40% DA mix as a raging media to level the coloration everywhere. |
