Well I finally got back to the Mal. Ebony classical this week I have had the back sides and neck done for a while but needed to inlay the rosette and brace and voice the top. I did the rosette inlay this weekend the got busy at work and laid off the rest of this week. I went out to the shop last night to find that the rosette apparently shrunk back or I just messed up and over cut the channel. which I don't think happened.
The rosette is a 5/8 wide ring of Mal. Ebony I had glued the pufling to outside and inside when I fabricated the rosette.
Anyway There was a 1/32 gap in the lower half of the channel. top is braced before I noticed or before it shrunk back which ever is the case..
So I chiseled off the braces. built a jig to center the (shrunk) rosette perfectly concentric to my fixture board for my StewMac dremel base rosette attachment. This took about an hour to get just right as the sound hole was already cut out,
I then cut a new channel That just took off the old outer purfling and wide enough for two .06 wide BWB purfling rings and inlaid the them.
Shazam! problem solved. Cleaned up the bottoms side of the top and add ed new bracing being sure I scraped off all the old glue first.
I find it hard to believe the rosette shrunk back that much but I know I was careful channeling the first time and surly would have noticed a 1/32" gap.
