Very handsome guitar Lance. That MBW is exceptional and the rosette is just right. Just the right size, and just th eright color, perfect.

I did not know that you have your guitars finished with the neck on. Does Tony charge extra for that? I know some other finishers that do.

Thanks John,
I have been scaling back all my appointments, bindings and rosettes especially, I really like the very sleek slim look.

Its the same price regardless if the neck is attached or not. This is my first (with) the neck attached.

Lance,

Beautiful! I notice you don't mask off the area for the bridge. What is your procedure for getting the bridge attached?

Author:  LanceK [ Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:23 am ]
Post subject:

Thanks Wayne,

I usually do mask that area off, but I was in a hurry to get this one in for finish, so I didn't bother.

What I will do is mask off the area around the bridge and use a dremel and a down cut bit to remove the finish up to 1/8" in from the edge of the bridge. My bridges have an 1/8th" x .005 relief cut in the bottom edge, so they will (fall) into the hole so to speak, so I don't have to remove the finish ALL THE WAY to the edge.

Very nice selection of wood there Lance. And the guitar is top notch.
I have thought about doing my bridges that way as well. How to you cut that relief?

That is a really nice looking guitar, Lance.  It all goes together so well.  Another fine example of "Less is More".

What kind of experience, if any, has anyone had in removing a neck that has been finished with the neck attached? I have seen the seam where the 2 meet and there is a noticeable fillet. I'm just wondering if that can be separated without chipping? What are the pros & cons of going either way?

BTW, Lance...the guitar looks fantastic!

JJ,
If and when I need to reset a neck on one of my guitars, I will have some added touch up work to do no doubt.
For what its worth, I have - wasted - some of my finish jobs Tony did for me while fitting and gluing the bridge on, I have sent them back to him for freshen up, he fills the pokes and buffs them out to perfect. Dont ask how I poked the top

oh lance, can you hear the pitter patter of my little heart? before i even clicked on the page to see the guitar, i looked at the adi and malaysian blackwood title and said to myself, "this could be one of my favorite guitars." i absolutely love those two woods. and together... look out! beautiful beautiful work lance! enough of the bridge small talk, lets give lance some more kudos on the guit!

Thanks Heath! I just love sharing in the excitment!

Hesh, the MBW worked very nicely. I don't know what to compare it too though - It sanded great, bent predictably, It seemed easer on the tools than say rosewood, but maybe that was just this one piece, I duno?
I DO know tho that it has moved up on my list of favorite woods. I have three more super nice sets that I will be trying to talk people in to letting me use
