This oak was impossible to split, so I took a chainsaw to the limb (which is about24 inches across) and ripped it in half revealing the reason why.

If not for all the beetle holes I would resaw back and side sets out of this limb. When it burns I imagine the smoke will be curly.

Ouch that's tough.

No bindings John? Curly oak binding sure would be nice on one of your great guitars.

The idea for rosette stock is a good one too Steve. You could even use some of the beatle holes in the rosette, fill with epoxy and that would really look cool in the rosette. Very rustic looking.

maybe I could just fill the holes with black epoxie and call it riddled querques (how ever you spell that)and charge extra. Like ambrozia maple without the red.

I was thinking that would be pretty cool, maybe someting more natural looking. I don't see why you couldn't use this wood and fill with oak dust and epoxy or CA.

   curly oak bindings would be interesting. I could probably plot a straight course though all those holes.

Steve, you give me hope. I may try the oak filler. Or maybe blood wood filler and get even closer to the ambrosia.

If you did not want it and I lived close enough I would be headed your way in my pickup. The more I look at it the more I like it.

If this was brazilian RW you bet I would be filling those holes/mini soundports.   Oaky archtop eh?   How about an single 0 with dark bindings and a sunburst on the top?
