Sorry if this is in the archives, but I searched a reasonable amount and did not find it... I have applied a "Wash Coat" (I believe that's what it has been called when you mix Z-Poxy with Everclear) and now I'm wondering if a Seal Coat of FP is necessary, reccomended, or not reccomended. |

It seems that my terminology may be off. I've put 2 coats of Z-poxy on the back and sides and then rubbed on a 50/50 Z-Poxy and Everclear. Now I'm wondering if it is reccomended to put a coat of 1 lb cut shellac next or to go straight to FP with the 2 lb cut... |

Blain...did you sand off the first 2 coats to fill pores? If so, and you have rubbed on a 50/50 coat, then I would also lightly sand that to achieve a level surface in preparation for FP. I lay on a few 2# cut shellac sessions before going to 1# cut. There are so many protocols that it's almost impossible to screw up. The main thing is to get your technique down. Remember...less is better. Consider buying Robbie's DVD for the best instruction and results. Good luck! |

Ok here is the Zpoxy schedule fill session: fill pores at 45% angle working is small sections at a time and scrape off access. Allow to cure 24 hours If need repeat till all pores are filled After 24 hour cure sand back to bare wood leaving Zpoxy only in the pores. The apply a 60%/40%-50%/50% Zpoxy/ Alcohol wash just to even the color. This is to be so thin it is absorbed by the fibers of the wood and leaves almost no film thickness. Then slightly scuff sand with 400p or 500p. At this point you may seal coat with a 1# cut of shellac |

Thanks Michael. I think that's exactly what I was looking for. Wasn't sure if I should skip straight to the 2# or do a 1# seal coat first. Will start on this tonight. |
