Do most of you remove your finish flush to the edge of the fingerboard extension? In Cumpiano's book he recommends removing the the finish 1/32" shy of the edge. I guess for a cleaner look. It leaves a little 1/32" edge of finish for the fingerboard to set on. He also does his bridges this way. In my experience it is better with the bridge to remove the finish completely flush to the edge. I'm wondering if I should also do my fingerboard extensions this way. |

There's not much stress on the joint of the extension. So it isn't going to hurt if it sits up on the finish at the edges. I go for the clean look. |

I do the same as Paul on the extension. I also choose to leave a small amount of finish around my bridges so that I will be assured of a clean look where the bridge attaches. |

In the dim distant past when I used to glue my fingerboard extension to the top, rather than to an extension of the neck, I only glued the centre 3/4" strip or so of the fingerboard to the top so only had to clean off the finish in that area. Colin |

Oh, on my bridges I glue them on before I French polish the top, so I can do a final thinning of the top with the strings on. Colin |
