Joe Bardwell just sent me this picture of his cousin with his guitar. Not only does she have an impeccable taste in guitars but the technique is all there too. The guitar is in DADGAD but note the pick technique, use of the guitars upper frets and the thumb over the fingerboard to fret the bottom string Another happy customer:

GREAT picture!!!

When I was young, My father was the type that thought that guitars were somehow evil and should only be played in bars, honky-tonks and other places of ill repute. Because of this, I could not have one in my house (even though I had learned to play at friends houses).

Man oh man, if I had only been able to play one when I was that age!

Dave, she is adorable!

Ken - your story really tugs at me. I heard something similar growing up and I still have regrets about it today. I hope that your father came to understand your feelings about the instrument and the nature of your character.

Ken, same upbringing in my household. Guitars played the "music of the devil" so we didn't play them or weren't allowed to listen to "that" type of music.
My mom did have a killer autoharp though.
Dave, I think this guitar could use a rib rest (or in this case, a thigh rest as evidenced by the roll of thigh rolling over the knee area).

i cant say that, my father played the fiddle, and so i was encouraged at a very young age, bought my first classical at 9. my first les paul at 12

OK, now the guitar being a DeFoite is bound to sound great. However if I can be a little critical, the posture is not good and could lead to shoulder and wrist trouble, but the guitar is on the right knee for a steel string.

For this player though I would have suggested a slightly narrower nut and maybe a tad smaller body, but the left hand is very Bert Jansch, (he never did play Anji properly). The face though is that of a young Davy Graham so perhaps she might come up with the next great tuning.

Might I suggest though that a Weiss might be a better instrument for this customer until her hand gets slightly larger.

I'm not going to mention the flat pick (oops I did)
