Minneritchi Desert Hardwood Back & Side set update
Just an update for you guys who might have a yearning for desert hardwoods. I have received and processed a log which produced relativcely wide Minneritchi sets with curl and birdseye figure. It is similar to Mulga but usually darker and frequently figured. The sets I was able to reclaim will just make the dreadnought profile. As they are partially dried I will need to rack them out for a while before they are available for shipping.   

The density and stability of these sets is quite extraordinary. They are about 1100 - 1300kg per cubic metre and shrink only 1 -2 percent.

I haven't posted these set anywhere else so if you have any interest send me a PM. I will have 3 or 4 sets for sale.

Bending Minneritchi

Well Bob here are the images.

I have used Mugla and Minneritchi for bindings and they responded well to the bending process. I found a fretboard piece which I sanded down (2.3mm/0.090") and then free-hand bent the piece over a thermal blanket without any back support for about 5 minutes occasionally adding water. I found there was only minimal fracturing on the edge which is fairly normal given that it wasn't supported. In a proper Fox like bender I believe the process would be relatively painless.


Used some tape to hold it in shape for the image.



Degree of spring after the tape had been removed.



Slight evidence of small fracture to the right of centre bend. Nothing significant.

It's amazing how dull these desert acacias look when they are sanded, and then leap to the other end of the spectrum with a bit of water or finish, or even just sanding and polishing.

Wish I had the cash right now to grab a set of this stuff.

Glad to know minneritchi bends well, wouldn't know what to bind my current build with if it didn't.
