Quick question, first experience with Z-Poxy. So, do I lay down a sealer coat before I apply the Zpoxy, or go right on the bare wood? And do I zpoxy over the koa bindings and perflings as well? I am going to apply nitro lacq. over it, so should I apply a sealer between the zpoxy and nitro? Thanks for your help in advance.

I apply at least 2 coats of ZP over bare wood. Level sand and then add a coat or 2 of shellac before applying nitro.

Good luck.

It'll work just fine over Koa binding anr the purf lines.
I do like JJ, bare wood then vinyl sealer as a binder for the lacquer.

Once again Do Not put shellac under epoxy. Some claim to have success doing so. But I have used Zpoxy for some 4 years now and have done several tests wit h shellac sealer under Zpoxy and none of them have had good results.

My best advise is to prep sand to 150 or 220 grit. fill the pores with Zpoxy. till the pores are filled (1-3 sessions depending on how porous the wood is). Cure 24 hours. Sand back to bare wood. This leaves the zpoxy only in the pores. Mix up 60% Zpoxy and 40% alcohol (this will be very thin, almost water thin) rag this on very thin with a lint free cloth like you would with tru-oil or other rubbing varnish. This is just to level the color every where. Allow to cure 24 hours then lightly sand with 320 or 400 to gibe a tooth. Seal with 2 1LB coats of shellac and your ready for your finish. Notice the sealer went over the epoxy not under it.
