I am wondering what length truss rod I need to buy for an OM size guitar with the truss rod access from the sound hole?
Does a 10mm access hole in the upper face brace at about 7mm from the bottom of the brace sound about right for access ? I am gathering that the keystock sizes don't vary to much between the different rods available..

I'm thinking of maybe a double action rod ..Are the LMI ones good? or what others should i look at?...or is a standard martin style rod sufficient..

cheers, thanks for any advice, grant

Hi Grant ,
The LMI and Allied double action rods are good . I've installed them flush with the fingerboard as per their recommendations ( No spline insert above the rod ).
This brings the adjustment just under the under surface of the soundboard , so the hole in my transverse is right near the soundboard ( not easily seen ) My hole is 5.5m.m. . Make sure you have the hole lined up with the truss rod.

A 14 1/4" long rod should work well on a 14 fret neck with scale lengths of 24.9 to 25.5'

The double acting rods from Allied Lutherie and LMI are not the same design anymore. Allied is now selling a Patent Pending rod that I designed. It looks and fits the same as the old design but it has a different threading arrangement that makes it MUCH smoother and easier to turn. Also, the moving parts are stainless steel so there is less chance of it seizing up over time.

They are less expensive than the LMI rods as well.

Yes, I have used the Allied rod that Mark is talking about
above and it is very good indeed!
