Colin (and others), This is probably nothing new to you but I stumbled across some great video clips on another forum of Robert Barto recording Weiss. I don't think I'll ever try and play Weiss on a 6-string again. It's good to see some of these guys keeping the music alive. The other clips are of Paul O'Dette. I attended one of his masterclasses back in the late 80's and he's really great watching live. For those of you unfamiliar with this style of music, give it some time and get a good cd, it will grow on you. Weiss more Weiss Paul ODette old school ODette improvising Cheers! John |

Heh, I play a bit of Weiss, I'll see if I can sort a clip out for you. Oh, I've got some Bach also that you've probably only heard (murdered) on guitar! Colin |

Bring it on, Colin. I, for one, love listening to the lute, not to mention classical guitar, steel string, electric, etc., etc......... |

OK, lute fans all, as promised here's a couple of pieces, for you. The first is a piece by Weiss, played on my Heiber 8-course. Not a very good recording I'm afraid, did this one at home. I'm not really a great fan of Weiss, but as John started with some Weiss from Barto, I felt obliged to dig out a piece. Weiss partita The second is a bit of Bach, you'll probably all recognise it as having heard Julian Bream, Alirio Diaz, etc playing it on guitar, though the lucky ones will have heard Julian playing it on the lute. This one is played on my Venere 10-course. Bach Fugue in G minor Interestingly, I have the original Venere lute that I took the measurements for mine from at home as the museum want me to rebuild it to playing condition. I am going to have to look at it for a long time before I decide the way ahead. This is a seriously important instrument and I don't want to go down in history as the man that ruined it! Hope you enjoy the music, that's what we need here, more music. Colin |

Beautiful, Colin. The Bach Fugue is really nice. Great tone from that 10-course lute. Thank you for your post and for your myriad of skills in playing and building. Repairing too, we pray! |
