I am constructing OM with 12 fret neck scale 24.9". Whaat determins what scale you choose for your guitars, why? What exactly is scale? |

Scale length == 2x the distance from nut to 12th fret. Or just 'string length' if you're being a bit more vague. Longer scale = higher tension = slightly 'tighter' feel and sound, in my very limited experience. It also affects bridge placement when combined with the choice between 12/14 fret to body necks, and bridge placement has a pretty big impact on bracing and tone. I'll let more experienced builders chime in as to the precise ways it impacts the tone, though.. |
