I am up in Nashville for a few days visiting my Daughter and Son in Law and got my SIL to record a couple of little diddy's with one of my "Prima" (OM) guitars. Thought you might enjoy listening. They are both original songs written by my SIL and only 1 minute long each.

Here is the links:  Demo 1  Finger picking and Demo 2 flat picking.

I'll have a couple more files tomorrow to share and will post them here. These were recorded directly into my laptop computer with an oktava mk-012-01  mic recorded at 5 feet away. no effects at all to enhance the sound... just pure guitar

Hope you enjoy them!

Ken,

That's a nice sounding guitar and your SIL is a neat player. I can hear a Weissenborn melody floating over that first accompaniment

Ken,
Now that's what I'm talking about... great sounding instrument. I love the idea of having built a handsome instrument but the thought of one that sounds great is even better. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks everyone!  My SIL Kris says to tell you thanks too .  He sure has been good to my Daugher and I am very proud of him.

As far as the setup, it is just one guitar....a Prima Model. I recorded t dorectly into my Toshiba laptop running XP through the standard mic port. As far as the software, it was using the Microsoft Sound recorder which creates a *.WAV file. I then used a wav to mp3 converter program  ( Free CD to MP3 converter 2.1) to get it into the MP3 format.

Thanks Ken, very neat recordings and inexpensive too. I downloaded both and enjoyed hearing your guitars.

Ken, both clips sound great.  You have to be very happy with the sound of your guitars.  Lots of punch and clarity.. Nice job building and recording...and playing by your SIL.

Very cool, and thanks for sharing, Ken! I like the separation of notes, very clean sound, too.

Is the Oktava a high impedance mic or a low?  Does it need a preamp in front of the computer, or an input board?

It is high z and we did use a really cheap preamp. from the preamp we used a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter to get it into the computer. One of the reasons I had been waiting to record the guitars is because I knew my SIL had a couple of better quality mics than I had.

Thanks for the kind reviews! I hope to have a short recording of *me* plaing some blues later on tonight on the same guitar. stay tuned!

ok guys, here is one of me playing some blues.... remember though, I'm just the guy who makes the tools, not necessarily the best of a guitar player.

I'm leaving Nashville in the morning, so I guess there wont be any more recordings for a while unless I spring for a good mic.

Here is the link

we might have got this one a little loud, but it is late and everybody is wanting to go to bed on me  guess that is all the noise I can make for tonight

That's cool, Ken.  The guitar still sounds good!    Naaa!  That was good.  You understate your skill as a player.
