Anyone ever heard of a Firth Pond Guitar and any idea if high value? My google research shows they were developed by CF Martin?? |

The Firth and Pond guitars that I have seen were made by James Ashborn's company out of Wolcottville CT circa 1850s. As far as I know, they had no connection with Martin. The ones I've seen for sale have typically been offered in the $1000-$2500 range depending on condition and how fancy they were. I've seen quite a few of them. Ashborn built guitars that were marketed by Firth and Pond as well as William Hall, and were early competitors for Martin instruments. Ashborn also made some very interesting early banjos that are quite rare and valuable today. He had a patent tuning peg that was used on some of the guitars and banjos too. Dave |
