Some of you
(especially those of you from Hawaii, or perhaps blues afficianados) may know grammy award winner Ken Emmerson,
(Im betting Howard does! being from San Francisco)
he is an Amazing player - he plays lap steel (reg, slack and alt tunings) and ukulele, sings as well as pickin one heck of a mean guitar in the upright position!
Im a big fan of his playing
(although I wasnt even aware of it - it turned out he is a player on some of my favorite Hawaiian and Blues mixed compilations, I found out after the show)
I was fortunate enough to be invited to private birthday party where he was playing on the weekend, and I didnt regret the trip up there thats for sure!
I havent been feeling well lately and hearing some traditional Hawaiian music framed by the Pacific Northwest and the Ocean (where our hosts amazing home and property were situated) was just the ticket to lift my spirits and encourage healing,,,
he played a solo set of traditional Hawaiian and blues classics, before being joined by his brother Phil Emerson an accomplished Jazz and Blues player in his own right,
if anyone hasnt heard him play do yourself a favor and check him out -

there is some music playing at his website and there is a link to his myspace page with even more music!!!
What a performer, and a heck of a nice guy!

Cheers

Cool Charlie,
I don't know this guy's music but it sounds like it would have been a blast either way. I really like small (or private) concerts like that because you can chit-chat with the players later.
Glad you had fun!
Christian
