I dont know if anyone is local to this, but in charlotte, North Carolina, there is going to be a vintage and custom guitar show at the metrolina expo center. If you are close, look into it, it may be pretty cool |

Yeah those shows are put on by a guy named Gary Burnette, who owns Bee-3 Vintage, in Asheville, NC. These days he specializes in Gibsons mostly, but in years past he's had good stuff in most of the vintage realm, including Martin. The best 40's model Martin I ever had came from Gary. I go every year - usually with a friend or two. I've been to Gary's house a couple of times to fondle the vintage stuff. Nice guy! Anyway, the show is usually an odd mix. Everything from cheap imports to quarter-million dollar electrics, but you can find some great deals, too. Last year I played what was, for me, probably the best guitar I've ever heard, a Kevin Ryan Nightingale. It was not to be believed, AND, had a line of people waiting to play it. Dream Guitars had it, and it was used. But there's nice stuff all around. Just to name a few of the boutique builders I've seen in the past couple of years: Petros, Borges, Tony Vines, Ryan, Proulx, Sheppard, Wingert, Sexauer, Fox, etc. There's others I've forgotten, of course. It's being held this year at the Charlotte Merchandise Mart, vs. the Shriner's Temple because it's outgrown that particular venue. If nothing else, it's worth $9 bucks for the guitar porn, and to get to examine guitars you've probably never seen. If any of you OLF'ers end up wanting to go, post your plans on this site, and we can hook somewhere to eat. Bill |
