Howdy, Here are some pictures of some of the fine folks who helped make the recent festival such a success. I took a lot more pictures focused on the guitars that I will post later. -C Here I am with Mervyn Davis -all the way from South Africa! Great guy. -Chris The paparazzi strike! Our cameras catch star luthier Charles Fox as he enters the luthier's seminar David Eichelbaum arrives on Sunday morning (he was not the only only sheilding his eyes from the sun after Ribbecke's party Saturday night) Stew-Mac's Jay Hostettler feigns shock at being invited to exhibit at LMI's festival! Ervin Somogyi takes a close look at Ken Parker's innovative archtop construction. LMI's Rob Lee displays some Master Grade tablesaw dust -used in Mark Blanchard's chaldni testing seminar. LMI will be selling this for $48 per jar. How to play a McCollum double neck! Stew-Mac's Erick Coleman. Despite his reputation as a rocker, Erick is actually a great lover of blugrass pickin'. A little known secret is that Erick has a huge image of Bill Monroe tattooed to his chest. Japanese fingerstyle champion Satoshi Gogo exits the stage to thunderous applause with his Sugita Kenji guitar. Ervin (in fanciful garb) shares a hug with Linda Manzer Gerald Sheppard's guitars sounds so good because they are built so lightly. Here he coaxs one to levitate... Masaaki Shiozaki (who is a well known and respected luthier and Martin expert in Japan) displays his guitar while luthier Kaoru Nakashima sneaks into the photo. It was a great pleasure having such fine builders come to the festival from so far away. A majestic Jeremy Jenkins with his 6 string banjo. Workshop instructor Patrick Francis shows us how to strum a nylon string with a banana. Luthier Darren Perry previews a new body shape he is working on for the 2009 festival Andrew White with a couple of bright ones. It was cool to finally meet Andrew after talking with him on the phone for years! Here's Rob again getting James Russell to sign the festival poster The Nada Brahma group with instruments by Scott Richter Terry Byrd (my father in law) with Erich Soloman Kathy Wingert after deciding her guitars would sell better with strings attached. See the guy in the back? He is asking a common question at Fred Carlson's table -"how many strings are on this thing and where are they attached?" Malaysia's Jeffrey Yong rocks out on his gorgeous Monkeypod wood guitar Judy Threet with a potential customer... John Ostoff with Keith Knight Performer / instructor Bill Mize looks over a guitar by Oriskany Guiars Okay...I couldn't resist. Here's a guitar shot. This one is a Bashkin. Mmmmm!!! |
