Not sure if any of you are familiar with these or not, but they're called "stereograms". I downloaded a free program to make them and it came preloaded with a guitar picture. When I saved it, it didn't come out perfect, but you should still get the picture.

Have fun and let me know if you can see the guitar in this picture.

Sometimes it helps to try and look "beyond the screen" and sometimes it helps to sort of cross your eyes (not too much though).

I've also found that keeping your head straight helps (don't tilt your head to the side).

Have fun.

Sorry, I just realized that maybe I should clarify a little in case someone isn't familiar...

There is a 3 Dimensional Guitar in this picture. You have to adjust your eyes just right for it to pop out.
The guitar is in the center of the picture and takes up a good portion of the picture.

Where can this program be found?

I remember seeing these about 12 years ago and ran across them the other night on the internet. They can also be known as "Magic Eye".

Lance,

When I get home, I can let you know for sure the name of the program that I used for this one.

In the mean time, you could google:
"Stereograms" & "Software" & "Free"

There's actually several programs out there that will do it and you can even create your own images as well.

Yep, I found it, too. Very nice double cutaway. Looks like a fender peghead. Really good illusion.

Hey Lance,

The link to the page is:

Stereogram Creator

Near the bottom is where it lists the Stereogram programs. The one I used is the 3rd one on the list labeled Stereogram creator. The file that gets downloaded is a WinRAR file and it's named Stereo1 (So you know you're downloading the correct file if it's called Stereo1)

After unziping the files the program is in the folder labeled EXE. You don't have to install anything, it just runs from the file.

Hesh, you really sort of have to stare directly into the picture, then try to focus either deeper than the pattern or just short of the pattern.  Once you start to see a 3D image start to form, you can adjust your focus.  It is a little like crossing your eyes.  Try moving your focus depth around, not your eyes.

Exactly as Waddy has said. Try not to focus directly on the pattern with your eyes, but instead try to look "deeper" beyond the pattern.

If this helps any, this is the picture that you should see (except it will be the same color as the pattern)

I'll see if I can read up on whether there are any tips for helping see it and let you know if I find anything.

Blain, the last time I looked at it, it looked like there were 3 guitars, sort of overlaying each other, but offset from each other.  Am I seeing triple?

Ok. A Couple more tips that might make it easier.

1) Literally stick your face right up to the screen (touch your nose to the screen and don't focus on the pattern) then very slowly pull your head back. Your eyes will not be able to focus on the image right away and it is at that point that the image should pop out. If your eyes have focused on the pattern then you have gone too far or have waited too long and allowed them to focus on the pattern.

2) An example of how to view the image would be to stick your pointing finger out about a foot in front of your face. Then look at a white wall beyond your finger. Without focusing on your finger it would appear as though there are two fingers. This resembles what you want to try and do with the image by looking beyond the image.

3) If you can get or already have a reflection on your computer monitor, look at the reflection rather than at the image. This could help aid in looking beyond the image.

Waddy, Hmmm. Maybe you're looking waaaaaaaaaay beyond the image...

Here's another that you may want to try too. It has a little more depth than the guitar so it may make it easier. Plus the pattern is different so it may make it harder to focus on the pattern.

Hesh,

Just relax your eyes and let them cross as you stare. You don't have to be close.

I now have a migraine and still see only 1970's shag carpet with a massive mold/algae problem. This is after being legally blind without glasses for 50 some years and $3800 lasered eyes which are still a miracle to me- presbyopia still present- took those readers off and still no. By the way, I tried crossing my eyes and finally, as my mother threatened, they are stuck that way.mt

For those who can't see it...remember what your Dad told you when you were entering your teen years?

Well this is a test to show that your Dad was right about you going blind!

Once you see the objects, if you slowly turn your head side to side it becomes even more weird.   Woa, thank God it's Friday!

Keep practicing and it will get easier to see them.

My neck hurts. I admit looking four or five times and nothing.

My dad was color blind and I knew I wasn't so I couldn't figure out why I couldn't see it either.

Finally by craning my neck back and getting in the reading area of my trifocals and relaxing my focus, well, backing away the guitar popped up, like it was a half inch away from the background.

The plane was a bit harder for me, but I finally got it too, a twin engine with twin tail rudders on the horizontal stabilizer.

Now I need some aspirin for my neck. Too early for beer!
