Going to glue the foot block on the classical neck I'm building now. It might have a problem: the block is nicely quartered. one of the central grain lines is very dark, it is thick and distinct and I can follow it on all 4 faces. it is a lot more obvious in hand than in pic. it reminds me of the dark content of the pores, which is a weak material and I suspect if this block has to fail, it will be along that line.... |

Right why didn't think of that. Well ! I took 2 slices (1 from each end) and split them in 4 each, the dark line held every time. Time for some glue action |

Those types of dark lines are common in Spanish Cedar and unless it is a sap pocket is usually fine. In most cases it is as hard or harder than the grain to either side of it so other than looks it is not a problem. The test you did was the best way to tell. In the block pictured, it will fall to one side of the exposed side of the heel and probably will not show much. |
