I'm buying my new MacBook Pro today, and am having a hard time deciding between the matte and glossy screen. On the one hand, the shiny screen has more reflection issues, on the other it *seems* sharper to the eye, with blacker blacks, more contrast or something. They're identical except for the screen surface in this case, but I have to make the decision. Help a guy out, won't you??

Hey Hesh, which processor and video card do you have in your MacBook Pro?

Ahh...so my 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo should do ok with the new NVIDEA G8600 in there, eh?

My powerbook has a matte display, and I prefer it. My sister got a
MacBook Pro a month ago with a matte display, and I like it, too. I would
go with what feels good on your eyes. Work with it in the store for a bit.
If you buy at an Apple Store, you have a few days to change your mind.

Good point James. For some things, I like the glossy display, but I really prefer the matte. I hate glare on a screen in any form. Being the poster-child for Adult ADD, it's uber-bad for me.

I just got back from the Mac Store, but came home empty handed.

It turns out that the 2.2Ghz unit with the 128MB NVIDIA card is in such high demand because they made some major upgrades - new backlit LCD technology and the NVIDIA cards, as well as the faster processors. Also add to that there's the annual back-to-school sale going on, which is $200 off the MB Pro, plus a free iPod Nano, or the equivalent value toward the iPod. It's easy to see why they can't keep them on the shelves.
I could buy the 2.4Ghz unit, which has the 256MB NVIDIA card, with all the same freebies/discounts, but it's hard to justify another $500 even for the more powerful processor and video card. I'm not really sure I need all that power anyway...and it's way over my budget.

Yeah, but Hesh....you placed at least 15 of those votes...

Thanks for spending my money. Perhaps I'll go get that more expensive one today instead of waiting...I sure would love that faster video card.

Hey Hesh, if I go get the one with the 256Mb video, I'll have to raise the price of that new wood...
