Here is one of my latest creations. It is one of my base line guitars with hardly any bling with the exception of the fingerboard dots and name in MOP.

Ash body with x-braced back

Adi top that includes my version of "Mario's magic tone bar" bracing

Mahogany bindings

Herringbone purflings  and rosette with dyed red maple trim

Morado Fingerboard and bridge

Grover gold tuners from the OLF swap meet

Thanks for looking!

Ken

I seriously don't like dreads, why i dunno,

But that is a really cool guitar. I mean seriously, the balance of colors, the herringbone, etc..... Now if it sounds as good as it looks.... then you got yourself something.

looks great.
Interesting use of herringbone on the back.
I like it when you think outside the box

Thanks for the kind review!  I actually couldnt stand to see it sit around any longer so I did a "quickie" polish on it just so I could play it. I'll take the strings and tuners off of it in a couple of weeks and do a final buffing. It doesnt look too bad right now but I know I can get it to looking even more mirrored. I am impressed with the way she sounds even though the finish isnt quite hardened yet. I had to bring out my old Martin D-35 to check it against today and I'm convinced that it already sounds better than that ever will. I cant wait for it to open up to see how much better it gets! The sustain is incredible!

Mario's magic tone bar turned out much different than I was expecting. He reported that this gave his guitars more punch and volume but the modified version of that tone bar I placed in mine seemed to tone down the notorious dread bass boominess and instead gave a really rich warm sound more like an 00 guitar would sound. I took the guitar to an old finger picking friend today and had him take it for a test run. I told him to give me an honest evaluation of the guitar and after playing it for a few minutes all he could say was.... boy, if you keep on building guitars that sound as goodd as this one you will be rich!  That was the kind of review I was hoping for   ....It is hard to get compliments out of that guy.

As far as the herringbone on the back... well......

The piece of Ash I had just did lack being wide enough for a dread. it missed by about 1/16", so I used it anyway. I had the herringbone purfling, so I thought... why not???  I kinda like the look of it too

Thanks again!

Ken

Way to go, Ken.  Great looking guitar.  That Ash really does have character.
