Hi Stan, I was just wondering what you decided in regards to the apprenticeship/job offer you received. Did you take it or are you still a reluctant Oki? I'm not always able to stay up to date with the going-ons of the forum (work gets in the way) so maybe I just missed an update you previously posted. Hope all's going well w/ you and you're happy with whichever decision you made. |

My dad had a major stroke and some additional heart problems. With that, I just didn't feel a time to leave. Others in family suggested as he has to go ahead with it, but I just couldn't do it. From my understanding with Dana, once I am in position to move, the oppurtunity will still be available. Dad is doing better, but I needed and still do to some extent be near to help with some of the day to day things. He is now in physical therapy and getting some sort of IV that is a 6 hour drip once a week. I still need to be there to transport him. He and my mom are when he is physically able moving to Springfield MO where my sister and her husband live and are able to give them a 1 bedroom apt on their property and care for him. He is thank God projected to get back to activity in time and do stuff so they can be self sufficant. As far as guitar work, it has been very limited. I do need to get back to it as it is a stress reliever for me and wife says it is time to let some of this go and work before it effects my health. I went to John Mayes a couple of days and did some building of a Uke and it helped a bunch. I have decided to sell my home and move, so when time for that I will make some decisions. Dad wants me to move on to more building. What has frustrated him most is not being able to play. He is an above average acoustic blues guitarist and solo player. I took him a OM to hospital and then to his home and my wife in her therapy is working with his ability to again play and it is working. She is thinking of moving this to other patients and a study for physical and mental rehab for stroke patients to do this sort of activity. Sorry for the long post, sometimes just need to vent. |

Stan, Thanks for the update. Sounds like you got a lot on your plate right now. But it's good to know that your dad will be recovering. Once he gets up to playing speed again how about having him record something (with a guitar you worked on) for the OLF video page? We can always use a good blues clip. Stan, anytime you feel the need to vent, you know this is the place! While I hesitate to say I envy your apprenticeship opportunity, I must admire your courage to take on the challenge. Speaking of admiration, I can't say enough on your loyalty and sense of duty. I myself lost my dad May of last year to a third bout with cancer. He was 57, my hero, and remains my inspiration. My hat's off to you!! |
