Well, between the family, the farm(as small as it is!) and the day job I have been WAY too busy these past few months. Although I have had this tree on the ground for a few weeks now I have just found the time this past weekend to get out and process some billets. So I just wanted to let you all know that I will have new sets in a few weeks. I do have a large waiting list to address as well. I am hopeful that I will be able to get at least two more trees before winter...otherwise I may get the spring off !! This is what it looks like 'at the site!'. I still have this piece left to pull out and will do that next weekend. The billets in my yard. I process very carefully, trying to ensure maximum recovery both from a business perspective and from a moral aspect, there is not an infinite volume of this wood so we should try to get all that we can from each tree that makes the grade for tonewood. Another shot of the stacked billets. I will be sawing and drying musical instrument sets from these soon. Thanks Shane |

Yup. Harvested at 935 feet elevation, about a one hour back road journey from my house, grain count a steady 20 grains per inch, the colour is even but not super white. The medullary rays are looking wonderful on the split blocks and I am looking forward to seeing them once I have dried and sanded a few sets. Shane |

"I'm a lumberjack and I'm alright, I work all day and I sleep all night" Great to see you back processing and wood destined to sing and be loved - your moral code is something to be truly proud of . |
your moral code is something to be truly proud of .
Absolutely!! I love to see step by steps of guitar builds, but these "before" stages are even better for their rarity value!! |

When I look at that stack of wood, I just see all these wonderful Lutz tops floating about. It's sort of like looking at a live cow and only seeing a stack of steaks |

I'd be lying if I said that that song hasn't been hummed and or sang a few times out in the bush! But it IS like a bug buzzing in your head!! Have I mentioned that it was great fun being back in the bush? Shane |

Shane
I think you gave me a quote some time ago, I'd like to be reminded, please!! LOL, whenever I'm out on a family walk, if I stop and drool at a tree, the kids just sigh and say "Mummy wants this for a guitar...." I happen to deeply appreciate trees (and the Creator) when they're growing too, not just as delicious billets!! |
