I dont know where else to put this request, but since it is for such a small amount, I dont think it should ruffle any feathers?? I need a piece of fret wire that is slightly taller than normal fret wire. The best I can tell, my fret wire is .041 tall. I would like to have a piece about 2 1/2 to 3" long and about .047 to .050 tall. This is going to be used as a zero fret.
Can anybody help? Ken |

Ken, after I posted my first guitar with zero fret, using a bigger wire, I think it was Kevin that said there wasn't any need to use a different size for the zero fret. On my next three, I used the same size for the zero fret as all the rest and it works fine. There is no need for a taller fret. Ron |

Hey Ron! It was actually your post that got me wondering about a zero fret in the first place. I have not tried one as of yet, but right now I have a guitar that will be a charity fund raiser and I am going over the top on it. Thought I would try out the zero fret just to see how I like it. I am putting in an unusually thin nut, so if all else fails I can always saw out the fret and put a regular size nut in it's place. Thanks for the advice on the zero fret wire too. I havent done this before, so I'm not sure what to expect. Steve is graciously going to send me a short piece of taller fret wire, so I'll have it if I need it. I'll try out the regular fret wire first though. Thanks again! |

A zero fret the same size as the rest of the wire is ideal in my opinion, though if you prefer a slightly higher nut you can simply leave the zero fret untouched when dressing the rest. |
