I recently finished an OM out of macassar ebony and Craig did the inlay on the fingerboard. The customer sent a picture of his dog (a pointer) and wanted it inlayed on the peghead. Craig did a dog that looked exactly like the pic. Since the dog was pointing, we dicided to do quail down the fingerboard as markers. You might get a kick out of this. It shows Craig's versatility (I bet some of you thought he only did fish ) and artistry and it lets me show off a little of my own work (again )

I love the fact that the quail are flushing near the end of their run.

Pardon the dust. That redish band across the eyes only shows up under camera flash. Something about that piece of pearl.

The top is ad and all the purfling is homemade ebony and koa. Binding is koa too.

This top had some bearclaw.

Scrumptious!

John it's always a delight to see your work.

I have to agree, that is some of the prettiest tonewood ever.

Now, quail hunting, that's a theme for you. Delicious little critters and so cute too. Beats manna some say!

Go John Go.

Fantastic. Nice work, tasteful appointments, and Craig's inlay work really adds that "somethin' special" touch.

Thanks guys
I don't know if you are aware of it but Craig has gone full time into inlay work. Give him a hollar if you have an inlay project.

holy cow. I did not mean to put that clapping emoticon on my own post. I thought I was hitting an embrassed face. This one could be construed as being a little self serving unless you saw in it a hint of irony.

Anyway, thanks for the cudoes guys and lets hear another round of applause for Craig's work!

Stunning work, as usual! Craig's ain't too shabby either.

Good to see a decent tripod in use.

Wow, that is stunning! Any sound clips? The inlay is outstanding too, a subject close to my heart. Been raising bird dogs (setters) for over 30 years. The dog is a setter, BTW. Probably a Llewelyn, judging by the old fashioned tail set and coloring.

Very nice, bro! That Macassar look top notch, and is set off nicely by the Koa.
And, it's good to see Craig take to the skies.

That's beautiful, John and Craig. My dad raised and trained bird dogs for years. We also raised quail and ran a shooting preserve for many years. Sure is good eating.

You've moved the bench mark just that much further. Truly beautiful work. It's a shame it should be stored in a case. It needs to be admired.

Thanks guys
Alan you know there is a well know classical maker who stores his guitars in glass doored wall cabinets. That always seemed like a cool idea.

Mike I am imitating as closely as I dare the heel that Bob Benedetto does on his arch top guitars. His are thinner, scary thin.

Ron I think those are west coast quail. The quail around here don't have that little thingy hanging over their head.

Burbank I did not notice that tripod until you mentioned it.

Bro I appreciate your appreciation of the koa with ebony. I think it looked right and I am sick of koa binding.

Jim you are right about the dog.

preciate ya...as they say around here in the hills of western NC

[/QUOTE]

That's the exact thing I thought of when I saw it was a Benedetto heel. Don't worry, it's not THAT obvious - I've just been watching his DVD's, so I've been seeing a lot of them, heh.  Looks kinda cool on a flattop.

The macassar and inlay both make me weepy.  Gorgeous, gorgeous work.

Well James...me too.

cs I am glad you think it carries over well enough to a flattop. One thing it does do is give a little extra room for your left hand to slide up the neck before encountering the heel. A little.

Terry that finish is catalyzed urethane...I think. Tony does the finish.

John
