I've been given an older Mossman, serial # 77-4549, to hopefully reset the neck. It employs a bolt-on neck, at the very least, and there could be other mechanical and chemical means of securing the neck.
Point is, after loosening the bolts, the neck will not budge, so I'm fearing the rumored glued in tenon.
I have no experience w/ Mossmans, and would welcome input from anyone who has. Specifically, other than the tempting sledge hammer, how to safely remove the neck so as to do a reset?
Oh yes, this guitar is a Tennessee Flat Top, and a 12 string. It is fairly rare, and in nearly pristine condition. I do not want to screw this one up....

I actually know the previous owner of Mossman guitars, Mr. Scott Baxendale. He lives here in Denver. I'd be happy to forward this information on to him to see if he can help out, or do you want to do it directly? Most of his repairs are for Mossman guitars, so he the man who will know. Just did a re-set on a Mossman. Yes two bolts are supposed to be what keeps the neck on, however, the one I just did had some glue in the motise/tenon area. It looked like it had dripped down into the area from the fretboard glue-on. You could actually see the run marks...fortunatley i was able to work it loose with no steam at all. On mine i also had to remove some of the tenon and heel as it was badly underset. then the bolts were too long..."pain in the neck" for what should have been an easy job.

I just spoke with John Baxendale today, who informed me that indeed those guitars did have glue in the mortise. Or they were supposed to have glue there...
They routinely pull the 15th fret, drill down alongside the tenon from that slot, and steam the whole thing outta there. Of course, having lag bolts in the tenon, it has to pull out not up like a regular dovetail.

I'll start this job Monday. Hope I haven't underquoted.
